Centre Notifies Permanent Appointments For 6 Additional Judges Of Bombay High Court

The Central Government on Wednesday (September 10) notified the permanent appointments for 6 additional judges of the Bombay High Court.
The notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice states:
"In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint S/Shri Justices
(i) Justice Sanjay Anandrao Deshmukh,
(ii) Justice Smt. Vrushali Vijay Joshi,
(iii) Justice Abhay Jainarayanji Mantri,
(iv) Justice Shyam Chhaganlal Chandak,
(v) Justice Neeraj Pradeep Dhote and
(vi) Justice Somasekhar Sundaresan,
Additional Judges of the Bombay High Court, to be Judges of that High Court with effect from the date they assume charge of their respective offices".
On August 25 the Supreme Court Collegium had recommended permanent appointments for the six additional judges.
Justice Deshmukh and Justice Joshi were elevated as Additional Judges of Bombay High Court w.e.f. October 7, 2022.
Meanwhile Justice Mantri, Justice Chandak and Justice Dhote were elevated as Additional Judges on October 21, 2023.
Justice Sundaresan was sworn in as Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court on November 28, 2023. In January 2023 the Supreme Court Collegium had reiterated its February 2022 recommendation to the Centre to appoint Justice Sundaresan (who was an advocate at the time) as Judge of the High Court.
