The Delhi High Court has quashed the FIR registered against a man accused of causing discomfort to a fellow flight passenger by constantly staring at her.
Justice Ravinder Dudeja noted that a settlement was reached between the parties and the prosecution also had no objection to the same.
“In view of the aforesaid circumstances and the fact that parties have put a quietus to the dispute, no useful purpose will be served in continuing with the present FIR No. 370/2024 dated 29.05.2024, Under Sections 509 of the Indian Penal Code registered at P.S. IGI Airport along with all the other consequential proceeding emanating therefrom,” the Court said.
The accused, Prashant Pareek, moved the Court seeking quashing of the FIR on the ground that the matter was settled between the parties.
The complaint was filed by the woman passenger flying from Indore to Delhi alleging that Pareek stared at her persistently, causing discomfort. She then submitted a written complaint to the police upon landing.
During the proceedings, the parties amicably resolved their disputes and executed a Settlement Agreement with the help of well wishers.
Allowing the plea, the Court ordered:
“In the interest of justice, the petition is allowed, and FIR No. 370/2024 dated 29.05.2024, Under Sections 509 of the Indian Penal Code registered at P.S. IGI Airport along with all the other consequential proceeding emanating therefrom is hereby quashed.”
