The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday issued notice to the Union of India and National Highways Authority of India, on a PIL seeking a direction to restrain them from "illegally" collecting toll at Nagasandra.

A division bench of Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru and Justice C M Joshi issued the notice on the petition filed by Advocate A V Amarnathan and posted the matter for hearing on September 17.

The plea states that despite expiry of contract period in the year 2021, the said toll plaza is still collecting toll fees through Fastags for every vehicle passing through the said road which is connecting about 20 districts of Karnataka state.

It is claimed that millions of rupees are collected illegally everyday, in spite of the expiry of the contract period.

Further, it is submitted that the Flyover starting from Yeshwantapura towards Nagasandra is just 5 kilometers and within the Bangalore City and collection of toll within the city is illegal, arbitrary and un-authorised.

Apart from restraining the respondents, the Petitioner also seeks a direction to them to furnish details of the toll collection at Nagasandra Toll Plaza from 2021 till now.
