The Karnataka High Court has stayed an FIR and further investigation against BJP MLC N Ravikumar, who had been accused of making 'vulgar comments' against Karnataka Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh.

While passing the interim order of stay in open court, the bench opined that it would deliver a detailed order, recording its reasons for granting interim relief at a later stage.

At the earlier hearing, the court had orally opined that “Politicians are going to a new low.”

During the present hearing, counsel for the petitioner stated that the complainant is a third party and not a victim or affected person.

It was stated that the political party had also filed a complaint before this, and the police had not lodged an FIR. It was stated that the complainant had lodged the complaint after watching TV news.

Counsel argued that on July 1, the alleged incident took place, and on July 2, a political party lodged a complaint, which was not registered as an FIR. It was argued that political battles should be either fought in the council or at the electorate.

Counsel stated that when the FIR was not registered through the political party, they brought a social worker to file the FIR. Counsel thus stated that the present case was politically motivated and an abuse of the process of law.

Accordingly, the court stayed the FIR and further investigation in the case.
