The Kerala High Court has sought clarity from the Bar Council of India on reservation of seats for students belonging to the Transgender community in professional colleges.
Justice N Nagaresh, was hearing a writ petition seeking reservation under the transgender category for admissions to integrated Five year LL.B courses in Government Law Colleges.
The State has previously submitted that a proposal to create additional seats was pending before the BCI.
Today, when the matter was taken up, it was submitted that no reply had been received from BCI yet.
The Court enquired whether there are reservations in other professional courses, namely engineering and medical degree.
“Can you find out whether additional seats are created in Medical colleges or Engineering colleges?” the Court asked the Government pleader.
It also directed the counsel for BCI to get instructions on the reservation of the seats for students belonging to the transgender community.
The matter is posted on October 16 for further consideration.
