Rapper Vedan, officially known as Hiran Das, has moved the Kerala High Court on Friday (August 1) after a case was registered against him by the Thrikkakkara Police on the basis of a complaint made by a young doctor alleging that he had raped her on the false promise of marriage.

FIR was registered against him under Sections 376 [Punishment for rape] and 376(2)(n) of the Indian Penal Code.

As per the petition, the de facto complainant had reached out to the petitioner on the claim that she was a fan of his and thereafter, they kept in touch with each other. Subsequently, they developed a close relationship and engaged in physical relationship on many occasions.

According to the petitioner, he and the de facto complainant were in a consensual relationship and the offence does not stand. The complaint was filed by her because of some differences of opinion between them, it is stated in the petition.

The petition also states that he had not been given copies of the FIR (First Information Report) or the FIS (First Information Statement) despite best efforts. This, it is stated, was the reason for not producing the same in his bail application.

Earlier this year, the High Court had granted bail to Vedan in another case of alleged possession of a leopard tooth.

The petition is moved by Advocates S. Rajeev, V. Vinay, M.S. Aneer, Sarath K.P., Anilkumar C.R.,  K.S. Kiran Krishnan, Dipa V., Akash Cherian Thomas, Azad Sunil.
