The Kerala High Court on Tuesday (18th February) ordered that the concerned officer shall send a notice to former Kumily Panchayat President and Congress activist Sheeba Suresh if she is implicated in the scooter scam case registered in Kumily Polce Station. The case is now registered only against Ananthu Krishnan for allegedly cheating a number of persons in the State by collecting money after promising to provide electric scooters at 50% of the price.

As per reports, Ananthu Krishnan collected money from a large number of people promising scooters, sewing machines and laptops at half-price. The fraud was allegedly carried out under the name of National NGO Confederation. Reportedly, the money involved in the alleged fraud is estimated to be around Rs. 400- 500 Crore. He is currently in custody.

As per Sheeba Suresh's petition he was appointed as a coordinator to canvass business on behalf of the 3rd respondent and was given Rs. 4 lakhs for it. She has submitted that she did not know anything about the background of Ananthu and she stopped working for him when allegations against him was published in news media. She submitted that though she is not yet arraigned as an accused, allegations against her are being spread by CPIM Amaravathi local committee and she apprehends arrest

When the case came up for hearing before Justice P. V. Kunhikrishnan on Tuesday, the Public Prosecutor informed the court that the petitioner is not yet arraigned as an accused in the case. The Court closed the petition saying that if she is implicated in the offence in future, the officer concerned shall issue notice to her in accordance with law.
