The Kerala High Court has called for the status report on the reconstruction works carried out in Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple after the Chief Thanthri (head priest) submitted a note on the petition concerning defects in Moolavigraha (principal idol) of Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple.

The note, as earlier ordered, was submitted before the division bench comprising Justice Devan Ramachandran and Justice M B Snehalatha.

The Chief Thanthri in his note submitted that he does not find deficiency in the main idol as indicated by the expert committee in the year 2017-18. However, he emphasised urgency in reconstructing the Sreekovil (Sanctum sanctorum) roof and the idol of Vishwaksenan.

The Thanthri further informed the Court that another inspection is scheduled in the Temple on October 12 and 13, after which findings would need to be harmonised with the earlier Expert Committee recommendations.

The bench observed that since the restoration works have already commenced pursuant to directions of the Supreme Court, it must be executed within the timeline mentioned by Thanthri as it reflects the “Collective conscience of the Millions who have reinforced their faith in the cosmic power of God Padmanabhaswamy.”

The Court has thus directed the administrative Committee to submit a comprehensive report detailing the progress and current status of all restoration works mentioned in the Chief Thanthri's note. It has specifically asked for the reconstruction of the roof of the Sreekovil and idol of Vishwaksenan.

The reports are directed to be placed before the Court before the next posting date.
