The Kerala High Court on Wednesday (August 27) granted anticipatory bail to Rapper Vedan, officially known as Hiran Das Murali, in a case alleging rape on the false promise to marry.
The Court had earlier reserved its order in the rapper's bail plea, which was moved after a FIR was lodged against him by a young doctor.
Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas observed the fact that a new crime was registered against the rapper by another woman or that another crime may also be registered, are not matters under consideration in the instant case.
The de facto complainant in the case had also appeared through counsel before the Court and had opposed the bail stating that Vedan has done the same to other young women as well.
The de facto complainant claimed she met Vedan through Instagram and after messaging him, they exchanged phone numbers. It was also stated that Vedan had promised to marry her and they engaged in physical relationship on various occasions.
In his bail application, Vedan claimed that the de facto complainant had reached out to him on the claim that she was a fan of his and thereafter, they kept in touch with each other. Subsequently, they developed a consensual relationship and the complaint was filed by her because of some differences of opinion between them.
Earlier this year, the High Court had granted bail to Vedan in another case of alleged possession of a leopard tooth
