Student Suicides: Rajasthan High Court Asks State, Centre To Inform On Appointment Of Counsellors, Inclusion Of Mental Health In Curriculum
The Rajasthan High Court directed the Centre, State, University Grants Commission, and CBSE to inform on steps taken to provide psychological counsellors and to incorporate psychological maintenance and mental health in the subject curriculum at all levels.
The division bench of Acting Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma and Justice Sanjeet Purohit was hearing a petition that highlighted the suicide trends of students between the age of 10 to 30 years. Despite this, the plea claimed, there was no provision of counsellors or mental health centres at the educational institutions.
It said:
"Learned counsel for the respondents will be expected to file their suggestions and the steps which have been taken for providing psychological counsellors and also inform about the present steps being taken to incorporate subject of Psychological Maintenance and Mental Health in the subject curriculum at all levels".
In this background, the Court sought suggestions and steps taken on providing psychological counsellors and incorporating subject of psychological maintenance and mental health in curriculum at all levels.
Accordingly, the matter was listed after eight weeks.
