The Karnataka State Commission for Women is a statutory body established on May 26, 1995, under the Karnataka State Commission for Women Act, 1995. It is dedicated to protecting women's interests and ensuring their progress and development, serving as a quasi-judicial body with the authority to investigate matters relating to women's constitutional and legal safeguards. The Commission primarily functions to review existing provisions affecting women and recommend amendments to address legislative inadequacies. It handles cases of violations of women's constitutional and legal rights with appropriate authorities, undertakes research to ensure women's representation across all spheres, and inspects jails, remand homes, and custody facilities to ensure women's rights are protected.

School of Law is a part of CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bangalore. The parent University, an educational institution, is an academic fraternity dedicated to the motto of 'Excellence and Service' and has an already proven history of success in education. CHRIST, formerly Christ College, is the first institution in Karnataka to be accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), UGC, and currently has an A+ grade as accredited in 2022 for quality education. School of Law, is an institute imparting legal education not only to students from various parts of the country but also from the Middle East and Mauritius. The courses are approved by the Bar Council of India.

Gender Studies Committee

CHRIST (Deemed to be University) has always championed the cause of education and emphasised the importance of nurturing individuals. Central to this mission is building an understanding of gender, gender identity, and gender expression that evolves with society. The Gender Studies Committee provides a platform for students to engage in discussions on sexuality, gender, and the complex interplay of factors shaping these concepts. The Committee serves as an academic community of individuals who delve into the socio-cultural forces that shape perceptions, reasoning, and behaviour. By creating this space for introspection and discourse, the Committee shows the University's commitment to inclusivity, empathy, and intellectual growth, empowering students to contribute to a more equitable understanding of the world.

The International Conclave on Gender Equity in Modern Workplaces, organised by the Karnataka State Commission for Women in collaboration with the Gender Studies Committee, School of Law, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), endeavours to explore the intersection between law, ethics, and social accountability in combating workplace discrimination. Additionally, it seeks to address the role of emerging technologies, including AI-based redressal mechanisms and their potential role in enhancing transparency and anonymity, as well as encourage discourse to develop sustainable, participatory, and inclusive legal reforms.

The themes for the Conclave include the following:

  1. Legal and Institutional Challenges in Workplace Sexual Harassment Redressal
  2. Power, Silence, and Social Barriers to Reporting Workplace Harassment
  3. Comparative and International Legal Frameworks on Workplace Harassment and Discrimination
  4. Organisational Ethics, Compliance and Governance
  5. Technology and Gender Equity at Workplace
  6. Gender Justice in Precarious and Under-Regulated Workspaces
  7. Judicial Response to Gender Discrimination

Eligibility

The Conclave is open to all academicians and legal scholars, social science and gender researchers, ICC members and corporate leaders, civil society and human rights organizations, policy analysts and government stakeholders, students, interns, early career researchers, and AI ethics and governance researchers.

Location

The International Conclave on “Gender Equity in Modern Workplaces” shall be held on 29 August 2025, at Bangalore Central Campus, CHRIST (Deemed to be University). The Conclave will follow a hybrid format, with the inaugural ceremony being conducted offline and paper presentations held online.

Acknowledgement of Participation

Certificates of Participation will be awarded to all participants. Additionally, a Best Paper Award (Certificate of Merit) will be presented to the best presenter at the Conclave. All certificates will be issued as e-certificates.

Submission Guidelines

  • All submissions should be made in (.doc) or (.docx) format and should be formatted in Times New Roman font style, font size 12, with 1.5 line spacing, on A4-sized paper, with 1-inch margins on all sides.
  • Headings should be in Times New Roman, font size 14, bold, centre-aligned, with 1.5-line spacing.
  • Subheadings should be in Times New Roman, font size 13, italicized, with 1.15 line spacing.
  • Footnotes should be in Times New Roman, font size 10, with single line spacing.
  • The citation style shall be Bluebook (20th Edition) for legal papers and APA (7th Edition) for interdisciplinary papers.
  • The length of the abstract should be between 300-350 words, outlining the research problem, methodology, and key findings.
  • Abstracts should be accompanied by a cover page containing the name of the author(s), affiliation, address, and contact details.
  • All abstracts must include 4-5 keywords that best describe the topic.
  • The abstract must be original and free from plagiarism.
  • A maximum of two authors shall be permitted per paper.
  • The author(s) of selected abstracts are required to submit a completed paper with a maximum word count of 2,500-3,000 words.

Submission Procedure

  • Abstracts should mention the title of the proposed paper, the central idea of the paper and the research method to be applied in brief.
  • Every abstract must be accompanied by a cover letter containing the name, affiliation, address, and contact details (including the name & phone number) of the author(s). If there is more than one author, details of co-authors should also be mentioned.
  • The abstracts must be mailed to the following email address: genderstudiescommittee@law.christuniversity.in
  • All abstracts will be subject to blind peer review, and only those abstracts approved by the reviewers will be selected for presentation at the Conclave.
  • Selected participants will be invited to submit full papers after the conference for possible publication in an ISBN/ISSN-bearing edited volume or journal (subject to editorial review).
