The NLUA Law Review is one of the flagship journals of the National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam. The Law Review was established with the objective of becoming a instrument in elevating the standard of legal research in the country. The Law Review is an annual double-blind peer-reviewed journal focusing on inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary approaches towards legal study. The Journal is run by a Student Editorial Board and assisted by a Faculty Editorial Board.

The Journal aims to publish articles, case comments, and book reviews on all aspects of law and related issues. Special emphasis is placed on contemporary legal studies, along with the reasoning behind the law. The Journal, thus, aims to provide an opportunity to legal academia, research scholars, students, advocates, and activists working for the enhancement of the legal landscape through scholarship.

National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam (NLUJAA) was established by the Government of Assam by way of the enactment of the National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam Act, 2009 (Assam Act No. XXV of 2009). NLUJAA promotes and makes available modern legal education and research facilities to its students, scholars, and faculty drawn from across the country, including the North East, hailing from different socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds.

Who Can Submit?

Scholarly, original, and unpublished manuscripts are invited for publication in Volume IX of the NLUA Law Review. Contributions are welcome from members of the legal fraternity, including, though not limited to, students, academicians, judges, and practicing advocates.

Categories of Submission

Research papers should be thematic, with the identification of sub-themes being appreciated. Submissions must frame appropriate research questions, with the findings being reflective of the questions posed. Submissions can be sent under the following categories:

1. Research Articles (5000 and 7000 words): Authors must submit research papers that examine the topic of choice. The article must reflect an innovative assessment of the theme. It is encouraged, though not necessary, to choose a theme that is of contemporary importance. Purely theoretical-analytical pieces are also welcome.

2. Notes/Short Articles (2000 and 4000 words): Submissions under the Notes and Short Articles category must be thought-provoking and innovative pieces consisting chiefly of personal opinions, analysis, or criticism of recent developments from a legal perspective.

3. Case Comments (maximum 2500 words): Submissions under Case Comments should entail an analysis of recent relevant Indian or International judicial pronouncements. Submissions must identify and examine the line of cases through which the decision in question came about, and comment on implications for the evolution of the branch of law in question.

4. Book Reviews (1000 and 1500 words): The Reviewer should identify the relevant arguments put forth by the author and present a comprehensive analysis of the same.

[Kindly note that the word limit is inclusive of footnotes. The prescribed word limit may be relaxed up to 10%, at the discretion of the Editorial Board.]

Submission Guidelines

  • Submissions will be considered only if they are written in English.
  • Every article must include an abstract of no more than 300 words. Abstracts are not required for case comments or book reviews.
  • The abstract should clearly outline the originality and relevance of the proposed argument. It must also highlight the article's distinct contribution to existing academic discussions or literature.
  • Co-authorship is permitted for up to two authors per submission.
  • To facilitate a double-blind review process, manuscripts must not reveal the identity of the author(s). However, references to previously published work by the author(s) may be included.
  • The citations must conform to OSCOLA 4th Edition.
  • The Editorial Board will conduct a plagiarism check in accordance with the prevailing guidelines set by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
  • Graphics, Charts, Tables, and Diagrams should be numbered consecutively when included in the body of the work.
  • Endnotes and/or Bibliography and in-text citations are not allowed.
  • The main text of the manuscript should be formatted in Georgia font, size 12, with 1.5 line spacing.
  • Footnotes must be in Georgia font, size 10, and should be single-spaced.
  • The title of the submission must be in UPPERCASE, bold, with font size 14.
  • Headings should be in UPPERCASE, bold, and set to font size 14.
  • Sub-headings must appear in Title Case, bold, with font size 12.
  • Sub-sub-headings should be in Title Case, italics, and formatted in font size 12.
  • Submissions must be the original work of the author and are liable to be rejected if they are found to be plagiarised or contain excessive use of AI-generated content.
  • Submissions must be exclusive and must not be under concurrent consideration elsewhere.
  • Authors are to refer to our Ethics Policy and AI Policy before submission.

The journal shall retain all copyrights arising out of any publications, and only moral rights will vest with the author.

Deadline

The last date for submission is Sunday, 21st December 2025. Submissions are to be e-mailed to nlualr@nluassam.ac.in. The manuscript should be accompanied by the author's name, designation, name of institute, contact number, and email for future reference and correspondence.
