The Karnataka State Bar Council has passed a resolution directing advocates who have uploaded any contents making derogatory statements/promotional reels and videos in social media to remove such objectionable reels, videos etc, within 31/8/2025, failing which it will initiate disciplinary proceedings U/Section. 35 of the Advocates Act, 1961.
The resolution was passed by the Bar Council while discussing the issue with regard to initiation of action against derogatory statements made in social media against Judiciary and Legal Fraternity.
The discussion followed an email sent by Senior Advocate S. Basavaraj with regard to reels circulated in social media in respect of Law. A letter of the Advocates Association, Harapanahalli requesting to take action against Advocates who are undermining the dignity and decorum of the profession under Sec. 35 of the Advocates Act and also the letter of Advocate Trivikram S, requesting to issue circular restraining Advocates from creating/uploading/ circulating promotional videos amounting professional misconduct under Sec. 35 of the Advocates Act, 1961.
The resolution no 50/2025 reads as “The advocates who have uploaded any contents making derogatory statements/promotional reels and videos in social media are hereby directed to immediately remove the such objectionable reels, videos etc, within 31/8/2025, failing which the KSBC will initiate disciplinary proceedings U/Sec. 35 of the Advocates Act, 1961.”
