Jagdeep Dhakhar tendered his resignation as the Vice President of India to prioritise "health care and abide by medical advice."

In a letter to the President, Dhankhar submitted his resignation in terms of Article 67(a) of the Constitution. He expressed his gratitude to the President, the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers.

Dhankhar, who was previously a Senior Advocate practising in the Supreme Court, was appointed as the Vice President on August 11, 2022. As the Vice President, he was also the Chairperson of the Rajya Sabha. Before that, he served as the Governor of West Bengal from 2019 to 2022.

During his term as the Vice President, Dhankhar prominently advocated the theory of Parliamentary supremacy and questioned the Supreme Court's Basic Structure Doctrine. Dhankhar's sharp comments against the collegium system also drew similar responses from the Supreme Court as well. Recently, he voiced his vehement opposition to the judgment setting timelines for the President and Governors to act on Bills, and went to the extent of terming Article 142 power as a "judicial nuclear missile."
