Senior Advocate Dushyant Dave Decides To Quit Legal Profession; Says “Leaving With Sense Of Pride”
Senior Advocate Dushyant Dave decided to quit legal profession.
He announced this decision on turning the age of 70 years. He said that he will use his time to help the society and to pursue his passions such as reading and travelling. He also expressed his desire to spend more time with his family.
Bidding good bye to his friends both in the bar and on the bench, Dave said that he was leaving the profession with a sense of pride.
Dave, who has been the President of the Supreme Court Bar Association, is known for his bold and critical views against the shortcomings of the judicial system. He is also renowned as steadfastly committed to the constitutional values, especially personal liberty and secularism.
In an explosive interview with LiveLaw in 2024, Dave had lambasted the Supreme Court for not asserting itself against serious executive infractions, and went to the extent of saying that “judiciary is at its weakest in the modern Indian history.” In an earlier interview in 2022, he openly spoke about various issues ailing the judiciary and suggested reform measures.
Announcing his decision, Dave told LiveLaw :
“After having spent 48 Glorious Years at the Bar and having just celebrated 70th Wonderful Birthday, I have decided to quit the profession of Law .
In these five decades, I have received tremendous love and affection from the Bar and mostly from the Bench. More important, the Clients have placed full faith in me at all levels in my career and I have tried to give the best to each of them, pro- bono or otherwise .
Most of all, I have enjoyed this journey immensely and do believe I have contributed to some extent in quest for Justice for all those who needed it so badly.
I leave this great Profession and this much important Administration of Justice, with a sense of pride. At the same time I do believe that generations of Lawyers and Judges to come in future will strongly work towards upholding the much challenged Rule of Law and ensure Justice to all those who deserve it and as speedily as possible.
I am eternally grateful to all those who supported me including my illustrious Colleagues, all of whom are flying high with right values as also my personal staff in office who served me with honesty and sincerity.
I intend to work for the Society at large in my own small way in coming times and enjoy my passions of reading , socialising , traveling , golfing and most importantly spending time with my wife Ami , who has stood like rock in my journey, my Daughter Shimauli ,her husband Gaurav, my son Nimay , his wife Prachi and our four adorable grand kids , Jia , Maisha , Tara and Samar . I am sure life will bring more joys for me with all these .
Goodbye to all Friends in the Bar and on the Bench.”
