Pursuant to a request by the Supreme Court Bar Association ("SCBA"), the Supreme Court, through the Assistant Registrar, has restricted the entry of law students on miscellaneous days, that is, Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays. However, interns will have access to the Court on regular hearing days (Wednesdays and Thursdays).
The SCBA, in its letter dated July 23, brought to the notice of the Supreme Court the concerns raised by members of the Bar, especially Senior Advocates, regarding the presence of interns within courtrooms, corridors, libraries and waiting areas.
The SCBA has stated that there is significant congestion on those days, largely attributed to the presence of a high number of interns. It has also been stated that on many occasions, it has been found that interns do not vacate seats in the courtrooms, even at the request of members of the Bar, thereby, causing inconvenience to members of the Bar.
In light of these concerns, the Supreme Court has acceded to the request of the SCBA and has requested the restriction of law interns on miscellaneous days. However, law interns are allowed on regular hearing days.
