A court in Coimbatore has sentenced all nine accused in the infamous 2019 Pollachi sexual assault case, to life imprisonment for the offences of rape and gang rape under Section 376 of the IPC and its relevant subsections.

According to the Indian Express, sessions judge R Nandhini Devi sentenced the accused K Thirunavukkarasu, N Sabarirajan alias Rishwanth, M Sathish, T Vasanthakumar, R Manivannan, Haronimus Paul, P Babu alias Bike Babu, K Arulanandham, and M Arunkumar to life imprisonment after hearing arguments from both sides.

The Pollachi serial sexual assault and blackmail case relates to a gang of four men befriending hundreds of women on social media and then sexually molesting them, including shooting offending videos, and then blackmailing them. The gang was said to have been engaged in such illegal acts since 2013. 

One of the victims, the petitioner, was a 19-year-old college student who was also assaulted by the gang involved in serial sexual assault of hundreds of women and her identity had been revealed by them as well.
