The Andhra Pradesh High Court has put in abeyance the Notification issued on 14.02.2025 calling for applications to fill up the vacant posts of Junior Civil Judges till the Supreme Court decides whether a minimum number of years of practice needs to be prescribed as a minimum qualification for enabling a candidate to apply.
In January, the Supreme Court considered the above-mentioned issue in a case which was filed by The All India Judges Association. The petitioners cited lack of exposure on functioning of Court as one of the main draw backs of not having minimum practice as a minimum qualification.
The minimum practice qualification was a part of the pre-requisite prior to 2002 and the petitioners prayed to restore it.
As of now, only Sikkim and Chhattisgarh are the only High Courts which prescribe minimum practice as a minimum qualification for the application of Junior Civil Judge.
