Centre Notifies Appointment Of Justice Shree Chandrashekhar As Chief Justice Of Bombay High Court

The Central Government on Thursday (September 4) notified the appointed of Justice Shree Chandrashekhar as Chief Justice of Bombay High Court.

Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal took to X to notify the appointment. 

The post reads:

"In exercise of the powers conferred by the Constitution of India, in consultation with the Chief Justice of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Shree Chandrashekhar, Judge of the Bombay High Court as Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court". 

Justice Chandrashekhar is currently serving as the Acting Chief Justice of the High Court, after elevation of erstwhile CJ Alok Aradhe to the Apex Court.

The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended Justice Chandrashekhar's appointment as the CJ in a meeting held on 25th August.

Born on May 25, 1965, Justice Chandrashekhar completed his LL.B. course from Campus Law Centre, University of Delhi in the year 1993 and was enrolled as an Advocate with the Delhi State Bar Council on December 9, 1993. He started his practice at Delhi on both Criminal and Civil sides. In about 19 years of practice as an Advocate in different Courts, he conducted about 3500 cases, mostly in the Supreme Court.

He was initially appointed as an Additional Judge of the Jharkhand High Court on October 7, 2013 and was made permanent on June 7, 2014. He also worked as the Acting Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court from December 29, 2023 to July 4, 2024. He was subsequently transferred to the Rajasthan High Court.

He was sworn in as a judge of the Bombay High Court on July 21 this year. He will superannuate in May 2027.
