Central Government Notifies Transfers Of Two Judges To Calcutta High Court

    The central government has cleared the transfer of two judges to the Calcutta High Court.

    Justice Sujoy Paul (PHC: Madhya Pradesh), serving as a judge of the Telangana High Court, was recommended for a transfer to the Calcutta High Court by the Supreme Court Collegium on 26th May, after having served on the bench at Telangana High Court since 2024.

    Justice Paul began his legal career as an advocate in Madhya Pradesh, being elevated to the bench in 2011.

    Justice Lanusungkum Jamir, serving as a Judge of Gauhati High Court, has also been cleared for a transfer to the Calcutta High Court, after the Collegium had recommended his transfer on 26th May.

    Justice Jamir had begun his career in Gauhati, being elevated to the bench in 2013, before being transferred to the Manipur High Court, and subsequently being brought back to the Gauhati High Court in 2024.

    With these transfers, the strength of judges at the Calcutta High Court has risen to 47, out of a sanctioned strength of 72.
