The Delhi High Court has ordered Zee Media Corporation, which owns and runs Zee News and Zee Business channels, to air the response of businessman Vikas Garg, to an alleged defamatory video run by the channels against him.
Justice Amit Bansal passed the order in a plea moved by Garg, who is currently under ED scanner in alleged Mahadev betting app case.
Zee had published news about him in its segment titled 2025 ka sabse bada Natwarlal (conman).
As per Garg, usage of the term "Natwarlal" for him “clearly establishes the mala fide and defamatory intent” of the channels to label him as a fraudster.
He had thus sought permanent and mandatory injunction against the allegedly defamatory videos and “baseless imputations concerning his personal, professional and public standing.”
The court has issued notice on his plea and granted Zee two weeks time to file its response.
The matter is next listed on 26th August.
In the meanwhile, the Court ordered, “the plaintiff is permitted to offer his comments/response in relation to the allegedly defamatory videos aired by the defendant no.1, either himself or through an authorized representative. The aforesaid comments/response shall be duly aired by the defendant no.1 on their news channels.”
