Delhi High Court judge, Justice Rekha Palli on Tuesday (March 4) stressed upon how important it is for women lawyers to cultivate a sense of community, emphasising that they must celebrate each other's win–whether big or small.
The judge was speaking at a get together function organized by the women lawyers in Delhi High Court ladies bar room ahead of Justice Palli's retirement on March 8.
“I would also like to stress upon how important it is for us women to cultivate a sense of community,” the judge said.
She added: “There is enough space at the table for all of us. Let us celebrate each win and support each other through hardship—no matter how big or small and let us be the support system we all wish we had when we first started out.”

The event was organized to “celebrate Justice Palli's inspiring journey” as a judge.
Apart from Justice Palli, other woman judges of the High Court- Justice Jyoti Singh, Justice Mini Pushkarna, Justice Tara Vitasta Ganju and Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma also spoke in the function.
In her address, Justice Palli recalled how there were only a few women lawyers in the Delhi High Court when she started her journey as a lawyer.
“When I started out, there were very few women lawyers in the High Court. You could count them on your fingers. I was the 9th lady lawyer to be designated as a senior,” she said.

Justice Palli also talked about how when she started out doing army matters, she was already a mother. She said that at that time, not many lady lawyers were doing cases relating to the army and that she and Justice Jyoti Singh were the only women lawyers to do so then.
The function concluded with a cake cutting ceremony, followed by a coffee break.
