The Gujarat High Court on Tuesday (August 19) extended Asaram Bapu's temporary bail, who was convicted in a 2013 rape case by a sessions court in Gandhinagar and is serving a life sentence.

After hearing the matter for some time, the court extended Asaram Bapu's temporary bail till the next date of hearing i.e. September 3, after noting that Rajasthan High Court had listed his bail plea in a separate rape case on August 27 while directing his medical examination in the meantime.

As per news reports, pursuant to Rajasthan High Court order Asaram Bapu underwent a medical checkup yesterday.

During the hearing today, when the applicant's counsel sought that the temporary bail be extended till the next date of hearing, Justice Vora indicated his approval by nodding.

Notably on July 3, the high court had extended Asaram Bapu's temporary bail for one month, after noting a statement by his counsel that he wont seek further extension of temporary bail. The high court had then further clarified that further prayer for extension of temporary bail will not be entertained on medical grounds.

Thereafter on August 7 the high court had again extended his temporary bail after perusing a July 30 order of the Supreme Court which had granted Asaram liberty to approach the high court if his condition deteriorates.

The high court in its August 7 order noted that Asaram is at present in the "ICU" and "according to treating doctor, his condition is critical". It had thereafter extended the temporary bail till August 21 while asking the State to verify his condition.

Meanwhile the Rajasthan High Court had on August 11 extended Asaram Bapu's bail in a separate rape case till August 29. The Rajasthan High Court also directed the concerned hospital to examine Asaram Bapu. It directed the concerned Superintendent  to constitute a Medical Board comprising of at-least two cardiologists and one neurologist of professor rank.
