The Jammu and Kashmir High Court has cancelled the enrollment of Advocate Sajad Ahmad Shah, nearly 16 years after he began practicing law, upon discovering that he had obtained his license based on a fake and forged LL.B degree.
Shah who is resident of Srinagar, was enrolled with the Bar Council of Jammu and Kashmir and his name was subsequently entered into the Roll of Advocates in 2010.
However, following an inquiry into the authenticity of his academic credentials, it was found that the law degree he submitted at the time of enrollment was not genuine. Acting on these findings, the Hon'ble Admission and Enrollment Committee of the High Court passed a resolution on April 29, 2025, recommending the cancellation of Shah's license.
The decision was formally notified on May 13, 2025, by the Registrar General (Officiating), MK Sharma. The notification states that hus certificate of enrollment stands revoked with immediate effect due to the submission of a “fake and forged LL.B degree.”
His name has been removed from the Roll of Advocates maintained by the Bar Council of Jammu and Kashmir. The High Court has circulated the cancellation order to all relevant judicial and administrative bodies, including the Bar Council of India, the Supreme Court Registry, and judicial officers across the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
