The Karnataka government has approached the High Court challenging an order passed by the Central Administrative Tribunal at Bengaluru, quashing the suspension of IPS officer Vikash Kumar Vikash, over the stampede near Chinnaswamy stadium ahead of the RCB team's 2025 IPL victory celebration.
11 lives were lost while 33 were hurt in the mishap.
The officer, along with four officers of the Karnataka Police Department were suspended for alleged negligence and failure to manage the crowd.
The CAT however quashed Vikash's suspension yesterday, stating that there was no convincing material showing negligence on the part of Police.
"Order was passed yesterday and soon after the order he came in Uniform to take charge milords," Advocate General Shashi Kiran Shetty told the bench of Justices SG Pandit and TM Nadaf.
While the AG sought an early hearing today, the Court listed the matter tomorrow.
"Clear all office objections and serve the other side," it ordered.
No stay has been granted as of now.
Significant to note that CAT had found the Police did not get time to make arrangements for crowd management since RCB "suddenly posted" about the event on social media platforms, without seeking prior permission.
CAT says IPL Team #RCB is prima facie responsible for Bengaluru Stampede which claimed 11 lives.Police is not magician, can't be expected manage huge crowds if not given sufficient time to make arrangements, the Tribunal observed.@RCBTweets @KarnatakaCops #BengaluruStampede pic.twitter.com/2QdmvohATs
