The Kerala High Court has reserved its verdict in the bail application preferred by a senior official of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), who was arrayed as an accused in a bribery case registered by the Vigilance.
Today (July 03), when the case came up for consideration, the counsel for the ED official submitted that he has been currently transferred to Shillong but that he is ready to cooperate with the investigation.
Justice A. Badharudeen reserved the judgment in the case and observed that till pronouncement of the order, the interim protection shall continue.
Background
Shekhar Kumar, the Assistant Director of ED who has been arrayed as the 1st accused in the bribery case registered by the Vigilance, had approached the High Court seeking anticipatory bail. As per the allegation, the official has asked the complainant for Rs. 2 Crore bribe through a third-party to get him out of his case. Shekhar Kumar has mentioned in the bail application that the complainant made false allegations against him to wriggle out of the case.
Aneesh Babu, who had filed the complaint against the ED official, has since received a notice from the ED official to appear before it with all the documents relating to the vigilance case. However, the bail petition filed by Aneesh Babu was closed on the submission made by the ED that it was not intending to arrest him.
Earlier, an interim order was passed not to arrest the official. The officer was also directed to co-operate with the investigation.
