Kerala High Court Grants Bail To Police Official Accused Of Demanding ₹2K Bribe

According to the prosecution, the accused police official demanded a bribe of Rs. 2000/- from the de facto complainant through mobile phone on two occasions in exchange for providing necessary documents related to a case. Thereupon, the complainant moved an application before the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB).

VACB pre-verified the complaint and on finding it to be genuine, arranged a trap for the accused policeman. The accused was caught red-handed accepting the bribe from the complainant and arrested. Thereafter, the present bail application was preferred by the accused.

Justice A. Badharudeen observed that a prima facie case exists since the mahazar clearly showed that there was demand and acceptance of bribe by the accused.

Noting that the accused/petitioner is a first-time offender, who had been in custody since 02.07.2025, and that the investigation is well progressed, the Court granted him conditional bail.
