While hearing a plea filed by mountaineer Megha Parmar for inclusion of her name in the Vikram Award List 2023, the Madhya Pradesh High Court has permitted the mountaineer to file a representation before the State for consideration of her case.

The court also asked the State to respond to plea filed by Parmar, who is stated to be the first woman mountaineer from the state to climb Mount Everest, seeking a direction to the respondent- authorities to deliver Vikram Award 2023 to her. The interim prayer seeks an ad-interim relief directing respondents to include the name of the petitioner in Vikram Award List 2023.

After hearing the parties Justice Amit Seth in his order observed, “In view of the above, it is open for the petitioner to represent her claim before the respondent No.1 raising all grounds and it shall be open for the respondent No.1 to consider the same in accordance with law. The reply in the mater may be filed within a period of two weeks.”

The matter is now listed after two weeks.

Counsel appearing for Parmar relying upon the various Clauses of Puraskar Niyam 2021 including Rule 9, sub-rule (2) clause (iii) contended that the grant of award is to be made on the basis of priority (who has mounted earlier) and the case of the petitioner is that she had climbed the mountain at the earlier point of time.

On the other hand, the Deputy Advocate General appearing for the State submitted that the consideration of the eligible candidates including Parmar had been done by a duly constituted committee and one Kumari Bhavna Dehariya was selected for the grant of Vikram Award 2023. He further added that neither the selection of Bhavna Dehariya is under challenge nor she has been impleaded as party respondent.

He however prayed for time to file a reply in the matter.

At this stage, senior advocate appearing for Parmar also sought the leave of the Court to submit a representation before the State for reconsideration of her case, which was granted.
