The Punjab and Haryana High Court has sought response from the Punjab government on a PIL seeking an investigation into three patient's death allegedly caused by  lack of oxygen supply at a Jalandhar Civil Hospital.

Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Sanjiv Berry asked the Punjab Government counsel to seek instructions and file a reply.

Simranjeet Singh, a resident of Jalandhar, moved the High Court, highlighting a recent alleged incident in which, on July 27, a fault in the oxygen supply led to the death of patients admitted to the trauma centre of Civil Hospital, Jalandhar

Referring to a news article, it was contended that the attendant handling the oxygen supply was a Class IV employee without any technical knowledge.

"Police miserably failed to take stock of the facts of the case, which is unfortunate and warrants disciplinary action due to the serious lapse on the part of the concerned officials," it added.

The matter is listed for September 15, for further consideration.
