    The Punjab and Haryana High Court has transferred to the Supreme Court, a contempt petition seeking the implementation scheme for management of stray dogs, following the Top Court's recent decision to formulate a national policy on the issue.

    While staying a division bench direction to not release stray dogs picked up from Delhi National Capital region for vaccination, a 3-judge bench of the Supreme Court had expanded the scope of the matter pan-India and had decided to transfer to itself similar petitions pending in High Courts.

    Justice Vikas Bahl said, "Keeping in view the directions given by the Hon'ble Supreme Court and the joint request made on behalf of all the counsel, the Registry of this Court is directed to comply with the directions given by the Hon'ble Supreme Court and to forward the files of the present two cases to the Hon'ble Supreme Court."

    The present contempt petitions was filed seeking implementation of the judgment of the Division Bench in 2015 with respect to implementation of the a 2013 scheme with respect to management of stray dog menace in the UT Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana.

    Recently, the Kerala High also forwarded the batch of writ petitions. However, the judge has retained cases pertaining to compensation payable to victims of stray dog attack.
