    The Centre for Law and Economics at the National Law Institute University (NLIU), Bhopal, in collaboration with Erudite Legal Law Firm, New Delhi, is organizing an International Online Essay Competition on the topic "Analyzing the International Trade Dynamics under the New Tariff Policy of the USA." The competition is intended to provide a platform for participants to engage with current issues in international trade and examine the implications of the U.S. tariff policy from legal and economic perspectives.

    The National Law Institute University, Bhopal (NLIU) was established by the Rashtriya Vidhi Sansthan Vishwavidyalaya Adhiniyam, Act No. 41 of 1997, and substituted by Act No. 6 of 2018, enacted by the Madhya Pradesh State Legislature. NLIU is recognized by the University Grants Commission and the Bar Council of India. The vision of NLIU is to become one of the world's best centers of legal education, training, and research. The mission of NLIU is to develop and nurture the intellect for the betterment of the nation and humanity through law and justice. The main objective of NLIU is to impart and disseminate comprehensive legal education in order to achieve excellence by way of organizing progressive study programs and promoting research with a focus on improving the ability of students and research scholars to analyze contemporary issues of public concerns and their legal implications so that law learners acquire skills to advance legal education in a professional and a responsible manner.

    Objectives
    The objective of this competition is to assess participants' understanding of trade policies, specifically the economic implications of tariffs introduced by President Donald Trump, and their ability to analyze these effects in a well-structured manner. Participants will be expected to apply economic theories, utilize empirical data, and provide reasoned arguments to assess the policy's impact on various sectors, both within the U.S. and globally.

    Eligibility

    • Open to all students, professionals, and individuals interested in economics, international trade, public policy, and related fields.
    • Participants must register individually (Co-Authorship is allowed only for two persons).
    • The competition is open internationally.

    Competition Guidelines

    Topic: Participants are required to conduct a cross-border economic analysis and legal implications of the new tariff policy vis-à-vis global trade and the U.S. economy.

    Structure of the Analysis:

    • Introduction (10%): Briefly introduce the new tariff policy, its key components, objectives, and its legal, political, and economic context.
    • Economic Impact (30%): Analyze the direct and indirect effects of the tariff policy on various sectors of the U.S. economy (such as manufacturing, agriculture, services) and global trade. Include any short-term and long-term consequences.
    • Theoretical Framework (20%): Utilize economic theories (e.g., protectionism, comparative advantage, trade theory, etc.) to frame your analysis and explain the rationale behind the tariff policy.
    • Global Implications (20%): Evaluate how the tariff policy affects international trade relations, supply chains, and global market dynamics.
    • Data and Evidence (10%): Provide real-world data, case studies, or historical examples to support analysis. Empirical evidence and credible sources will be highly valued.
    • Policy Suggestions (10%): Policy recommendations should be based on research outcomes/findings.

    Submission Guidelines:

    • Format: Submissions must be in PDF format.
    • Length: Maximum word limit: 3000-4000 (excluding references, footnotes, and appendices).
    • Font: Times New Roman, size 12, 1.5 line spacing.
    • References: Participants must use the 20TH Harvard Bluebook Referencing Style for citations.
    • Plagiarism: All submissions must be original. Plagiarism will result in disqualification.
    • Language: Submissions must be written in English.

    • Abstract Submission: June 10, 2025 (11:59 PM)
    • Acceptance of Abstract: June 20, 2025
    • Registration: June 30, 2025
    • Final Submission: July 20, 2025 (11:59 PM)
    • Declaration of Result: August 21, 2025

    • Foreign Nationals:
     o Single Author: $25
     o Co-authors: $45
