RGNUL's CASH Organizes Expert Talk On Aviation Law And Criminal Liability

The Centre for Advanced Studies in International Humanitarian Law (CASH) of RGNUL organised a lecture on 'Aviation Law and Governance' at Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab on 21 April 2025. The lecture was delivered by Mr. Syed Tamjeed Ahamad Advocate, specialist in Aviation Law. Mr. Ahamad talked about the intersection between aviation law and criminal law, particularly money-laundering crimes. However, he gave the attendees a birds-eye view in the field of aviation. He discussed the principles of aviation law, International regulations and the role of various regulatory bodies. Mr. Ahamad also elaborated the eight freedoms of aviation law to facilitate a foundational understanding of the subject matter. He also delved into the concept of pilot's discretion and the various contours of liability of airlines at different areas of airports. Mr. Ahmed gave illustrations of cases in which he has appeared as a counsel as well as amicus curiae. The attendees were thus able to understand the practical functioning of aviation law and its various intricacies.
The lecture was followed by an interactive question-answer session, wherein attendees got a chance to ask questions about his field as well as his experiences. The answers were equally informative, touching upon aspects of other fields such as antitrust law and Insolvency law that also impact aviation law. The event was also graced by Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Jai Shankar Singh, Registrar, Dr. Ivneet Walia, and Faculty Convenors (CASH), Dr.Sukhwinder Kaur Virk and Mr. Saurabh Sharma. Students Kusha Grover and Sarthak Sahoo helped in the conduction of the event.
