    Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU), Raipur, in collaboration with the National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes & Narcotics (NACIN), conducted a two-day workshop on "Era of New Criminal Laws in India" from February 27-28, 2025. The workshop focused on legislative amendments, procedural changes, and enforcement mechanisms related to tax-related offenses, featuring distinguished legal experts and academicians. The workshop recorded the participation of the IRS officers across India.

    Prior to the workshop, NACIN and HNLU entered into an MOU last year to explore new possible domains and create synergistic collaboration.

    The workshop was graced by eminent personalities, including Justice P.N. Prakash, Former Judge, Madras High Court & Distinguished Jurist Professor, HNLU, Dr. Kavita Bhatnagar (IRS), Additional Director General, NACIN, Bhopal, Mr. Vijayshankar Nagarajarao, Chairman-FDPPI, Privacy & Data Protection Consultant.

    The Day 1 of the workshop commenced with the inaugural address by Mr. Shailendra Kumar (IRS), Additional Director, NACIN, Raipur, who provided valuable insights into tax administration and enforcement mechanisms in the evolving legal landscape. Justice P.N. Prakash delivered two sessions namely "Navigating the New Criminal Laws: Implications on Financial Offenses, Justice Delivery & Future Reforms" and "Enhancing Justice in Economic Offenses: Prosecution Strategies, Investigative Ethics, and Judicial Insights." Mr. Shubham Tomar, Assistant Public Prosecutor (C.G.), Dr. Hina Iliyas, Assistant Professor, HNLU also cast light on the rationale and objectives of the new Criminal Laws.

    Day 2 of the Workshop witnessed the session by Dr. Parvesh Kumar Rajput on "Terrorism, Terror Financing & UAPA," provided an analysis of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), and other related legislations. Dr. Priyanka Dhar led a session on "Cyber Crime and the Importance of Cyber Security Regime in India."

    Mr. Vijayshankar Nagarajarao delivered two sessions i.e. "Overview of the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023" and "Application of New Criminal Laws in Investigating Online Fraud, Harassment & Economic Offenses."

    In the valedictory ceremony Dr. Kavita Bhatnagar (IRS), Additional Director General, NACIN, delivered the Address, emphasizing the workshop's role in enhancing legal awareness and enforcement capabilities.

    This workshop provided practical exposure to legal provisions, judicial interpretations, and best practices for handling criminal liabilities under tax laws.
