The Allahabad High Court Bar Association has decided to suspend their ongoing strike in protest against the transfer of Justice Yashwant Varma from the Delhi High Court to the Allahabad High Court.

As per a resolution passed by the Association on March 29, the strike will be suspended until the three-member inquiry committee completes its investigation against Justice Varma. The judge is at the center of controversy after burnt wads of cash were found at his official residence in Delhi following a fire incident.

The Association has also decided that the lawyers will not attend Justice Varma's oath-taking ceremony.

In the meeting of the association, the following decisions were taken:

    1. The direction of the movement was changed, and a new strategy was adopted. It was unanimously decided to suspend the ongoing judicial work boycott by the High Court Bar Association until the investigation report on Hon'ble Justice Yashwant Varma is received. After the inquiry report, further decisions will be made, and it was resolved that judicial work will resume from Tuesday, April 1, 2025, as before.
    2. A proposal was passed to open the Photo Identification Center for the benefit of the litigants and advocates, ensuring smoother judicial proceedings.

It was also unanimously decided to hold a national-level press conference under the auspices of the High Court Bar Association in Prayagraj on April 26/27, 2025, to give momentum to the movement and garner support from High Court Bar Associations across the country.

The Supreme Court refused to entertain a writ petition seeking the registration of an FIR against Justice Yashwant Varma, former Delhi High Court Judge, over the alleged discovery of illicit cash at official premises.

Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna has asked the Chief Justice of Allahabad High to not assign any judicial work to Justice Yashwant Varma, who is facing an in-house inquiry over allegations of keeping illicit cash at his official residential premises.

Justice Varma, who originally belonged to the Allahabad High Court, was transferred to the Delhi High Court in 2021.
