A Delhi Court today directed the Delhi Police to conduct investigation against Times Now Group Editor-in-Chief in a defamation case filed by Arnab Goswami's ARG Outlier Media Private Limited.
ACJM Siddhant Sihag of Patiala House Courts directed that an investigation be carried out against Kumar under Section 225 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023.
As per the provision, a Magistrate can postpone issuing summons or warrants against an accused, particularly when such an accused resides outside the Magistrate's jurisdiction.
The judge heard arguments on the point of summoning Kumar and noted that she is residing beyond the jurisdiction of the court.
“Given the facts and circumstances, I deem it appropriate that an investigation be carried out in the instant matter u/s 202 Cr.P.C. / 225 BNSS. Copy of this order be sent to the concerned SHO for necessary action. Report be filed by the IO on or before NDOH,” the Court said while listing the matter for hearing on February 26, 2026.
ARG Outlier Media Private Limited has alleged that Kumar made a series of defamatory and unsubstantiated statements against Arnab Goswami pertaining to the alleged TRP scam case.
Advocate Ayush Jindal appeared on behalf of ARG Outlier Media.
The case stems from a prime-time broadcast on Times Now's Newshour which was aired on January 18, 2020, at 9 PM. As per the complaint, Kumar allegedly made a series of defamatory comments against Goswami.
As per the complaint, the remarks, coupled with distortion of the Mumbai Police chargesheet in the alleged TRP scam, were designed to malign Goswami.
