Raising serious concerns, the Jammu & Kashmir High Court Bar Association (Jammu) has written to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha over the continued vacancy in the office of the Advocate General, a key legal post lying vacant for over six months now.

In its letter, the Bar Association pointed out that the absence of an Advocate General is hampering the government's ability to represent itself effectively before various courts.

They stressed that leaving the top legal advisor's post unoccupied for such a long period is not only inconvenient but also detrimental to the legal functioning of the Union Territory's administration.

The Association has requested the LG to address the issue urgently and appoint a competent legal professional to the position without further delay.

"The Advocate General holds a critical responsibility in advising the government and defending it in courts," the letter emphasized, warning that prolonged delays could seriously affect governance and justice delivery.

Referring to constitutional provisions, the Bar Association reminded that under Article 165 of the Constitution of India, it is mandatory for every State to have an Advocate General who acts as the government's chief legal advisor.

Highlighting the importance of the post, the Association said timely appointment is crucial to ensuring effective legal representation and maintaining the credibility of the administration.

The Bar members expressed hope that the government would treat the matter with the urgency it deserves in the larger interest of justice and efficient governance.
