The Karnataka State Cabinet on Thursday approved the “Menstrual Leave Policy, 2025”, allowing women employees across all sectors one day of paid leave every month.

The policy will be applicable to women working in government departments, garment units, IT companies, multinational corporations (MNCs), and other private industries across the state.

According to the official note, the initiative recognizes women's health as a fundamental workplace right, and aims to create a more inclusive and supportive work environment.

“The Cabinet has decided to implement the 'Menstrual Leave Policy, 2025' to provide one day of paid leave every month to women working in all sectors,” the government said.

Officials added that the move reflects the state's commitment to ensuring workplace welfare and addressing issues that have long been associated with stigma and silence.

The policy is being hailed as a progressive step in advancing women's rights and workplace equity, ensuring that women can prioritize their health without fear of professional repercussions.
