The Chandigarh Court today granted bail to Advocate Simranjit Singh Blassi, who was seen brandishing sword in the Punjab & Haryana High Court premises, following a physical altercation with the bar members on September 17.
FIR was lodged under Sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 109(1) (attempt to murder), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 3(5) (common intention) BNS and Blassi was arrested on the same day late evening.
Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Sachin Yadav granted him bail.
Yesterday, the High Court took suo motu cognisance of a letter written by the Secretary of the High Court Bar Association (HCBA), seeking the arrest of a lawyer accused of instigating the attack.
The letter alleges that Advocate Ravneet Kaur instigated Advocate Simranjit Singh Blassi to assault the bar members on September 17.
It is also alleged that Kaur posted sexually explicit and defamatory content against the Secretary on social media, prompting the Court to initiate action on its own motion.
Hence, the Court sought response from Chandigarh Administration and DGP.
It is significant to note that Blassi has also lodged a complaint, alleging that a mob of 100 unnamed lawyers attacked him. A Daily Diary Report has been registered in the matter but the High Court has stayed coercive action against any bar member.
