Claiming it to be the “first ever kind of initiative” Rajasthan State Legal Services Authority (RSLSA) has launched a scheme for Eco-Feminism, named “Srajan Ki Suraksha”, recognizing the link between well-being of nature and women, and the disadvantaged position faced by both in contemporary society.
The scheme was launched on April 5 by the then Executive Chairman of NALSA and the present Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai, in the presence of the Rajasthan High Court Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava (Patron-in-Chief, RSLSA), and Justice Shree Chandrashekhar (Executive Chairman, RSLSA), in 36 districts of Rajasthan, on a pilot basis.
The respective District Legal Services Authorities (“DLSAs”) of the 36 districts have identified 36 gram-panchayats, wherein 11 saplings shall be planted on the birth of every girl child with an aim to significantly transform the village into a potential green centre.
A unique identity card shall be provided to every girl child born within the selected gram panchayats (“Green Girl”), that shall symbolically link the girl child and her family to available legal services as well as government schemes.
The card shall ensure proactive engagement with the families of the “Green Girl” to facilitate information and support regarding, medical facilities, educational opportunities, relevant government schemes, available social protection programmes, and required legal aid & assistance particularly in relation to child and women rights.
The scheme aims to empower women and protect environment through a collaborative and community centric approach while leveraging the existing legal services framework.
