The Tamil Nadu Advocates' Association has condemned the recent attack on Chief Justice of India B.R Gavai.
The letter issued by the association said that the "disrespectful act" against the CJI was a brazen attempt to degrade the majesty of the judicial institution. It states that the act has deeply affected the members of the Bar, and the said incident is a clear case of aggression and disrespect to the office of the CJI and the entire judicial institution.
The letter further reads that the entire legal fraternity and the judicial institution are the protectors of the Constitution, and it is the duty of every individual to show utmost respect to the offices of the judicial institution. However, the recent incident, which occurred within the precincts of the Chief Justice's court, has "undermined" the majesty of the judicial institution.
It has been further stated that the unruly element, who engaged in such disrespectful act cannot be left scot-free and must be made to face the consequences of his action as per the law.
The Association and its members expressed their solidarity with the Chief Justice. The association and the members of the Bar of State of Tamil Nadu also called upon the judicial institution to initiate appropriate action against the disgruntled lawyer for his malignant act against the majesty of the judicial institution.
The association also called upon the Bar Council of India to initiate appropriate disciplinary action against the disrespectful act, which is unbecoming of a lawyer and is against the fundamental objectives of the Advocates Act 1961.
