In the abetment of the suicide case of 25-year-old TCS Manager, Manav Sharma, the Allahabad High Court on Wednesday granted bail to his mother-in-law as well as his sister-in-law.

A bench of Justice Sameer Jain noted that only general allegations have been levelled against them and that there was merit in the argument of the applicants that there is no cogent evidence of abetment against them on record.

The single judge also factored in that the applicants are ladies with no criminal history, and in the present matter, they have been in jail since March 15.

Sharma died by suicide in February this year, alleging marital harassment. Before hanging himself, he recorded a 6+ minute video in which he blamed his wife and his in-laws for pushing him to this point. Shortly after, an undated video of Sharma's wife went viral on social media, where she claimed that her husband would become aggressive after drinking.

The applicants, booked under Section 108 BNS, moved the HC seeking bail, contending that they have been falsely roped in the matter and that there is no cogent evidence of abetment against them.

Their counsel also argued that due to a matrimonial dispute that arose between husband and wife, Sharma committed suicide, and thereafter, only because the applicants are close family members of the wife, they were made accused in the present matter.

Though the AGA as well as counsel for the informant opposed the prayer for bail, but could not dispute the argument on facts advanced by learned counsel for the applicants.

In view of this, the Court granted them bail.
