The Rajasthan High Court on Wednesday rejected the application moved by Asaram Bapu, who has been sentenced to life in a 2013-rape case, seeking extension of his interim bail on medical grounds.

A division bench of Justice Dinesh Mehta and Justice Vinit Kumar Mathur reportedly took note of the self-styled godman's medical record and found that he is stable.

The Supreme Court had released him on interim bail on medical grounds on January 7 this year till March 31.

Thereafter the Rajasthan High Court had on January 14 first granted him interim bail on medical grounds. The relief was extended from time time, last till August 29.

The Court had also then issued directions for Asaram's medical examination by a Board to be constituted by the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, comprising of atleast two cardiologist and one neurologist of professor rank.

The Board had to examine Asaram on his health concerns, and had to submit a report on whether he required further hospitalization or continuous medical attendance.

While hearing the matter today, the Court considered the report of the Civil Hospital and basis that, rejected his application to extend the bail.

Accordingly, he has been directed to surrender in Central Jail on August 30.

Meanwhile the Gujarat High Court had on August 19 extended Asaram Bapu's temporary bail (in a separate rape case) till September 3 after noting that the Rajasthan High Court had extended his interim bail in another rape case till August 29, while directing his medical examination in the meantime.

"The said report is yet to be presented before the Hon'ble High Court of Rajasthan at Jodhpur...We therefore, without expressing any opinion further deem it fit that the present matter for extension of temporary bail be kept on 03.09.2025 and till then, the temporary bail of the applicant is extended," the Gujarat High Court had said.
