Former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna has moved the Sessions Court for the second time seeking regular bail in the alleged rape and sexual assault case against him.

The Karnataka High Court had by its order dated July 9, relegated him to the sessions court. The trial court was also directed to dispose of his plea within 10 days.

Senior Advocate Vikram Huilgol appearing for Revanna on Tuesday argued that he has been in custody from past 1 year 2 months. He further pointed that though Court had taken cognizance of the matter in September last year however, the order of committal was passed only on July 01, this year.

Further, he said that the allegations against Revanna have been levelled in a common complaint and therefore possibility of progress in his case alone would not be possible. Significant to note that the High Court had in January this year, directed the trial court not to frame charges against Revanna's father (HD Revanna), who is accused in a connected case.

On merits, Revanna's counsel submitted there was an unexplained delay in filing the complaint.

Huilgol also said that prosecution has filed voluminous charge sheet with 150 charge-sheet witnesses and thus, early conclusion of trial remains doubtful and considering the fact that investigation is over, there is no bar in granting him bail.

The prosecution is likely to make their submission today.
