Jailed ₹3700-Crore Scam Accused Booked For Threat Mail To Allahabad High Court Judge Using Cop's Mobile
A prisoner lodged in Lucknow Jail in connection with a massive ₹3,700-crore cyber fraud case has been accused of sending a threatening email to an Allahabad High Court judge using a police constable's phone, PTI has reported.
An FIR has been lodged against Jailed accused Anubhav Mittal who is facing charges of duping nearly seven lakh investors through a fake online Ponzi scheme. He allegedly used the phone of constable Ajay Kumar to send the email under a false identity in an attempt to frame another inmate.
The threat mail in question claimed that a judge of the Lucknow Bench "was going to be murdered". A joint inquiry was later conducted by the Cyber Cell and Crime Branch which traced the email back to UP Police constable's phone.
Mittal, now booked for criminal intimidation and under the IT Act, has been taken to the court for hearing by constable Kumar on November 4, a senior officer told PTI.
As per the initial probe, Constable Kumar allowed Mittal to use his phone to check his case status. Mittal allegedly used that window to secretly create a new email ID and set the threat message on an auto-send timer for the next morning.
Police added that Mittal's motive was to implicate fellow inmate, a murder accused, due to personal enmity.
Mittal was arrested by the Special Task Force in 2017 and he currently faces over 300 criminal cases in connection with the ₹3,700-crore scam perpetrated by seeking fake social media 'likes' from lakhs of gullible investors by a Noida-based firm.
