Haryana-based YouTuber and travel vlogger Jyoti Malhotra, who was arrested on May 16 for allegedly spying for Pakistani intelligence agencies, has been sent to 14-day judicial custody by a Court in Haryana's Hisar District.
Malhotra's police remand ended today. On May 22, her police custody was extended by four days. Since the police did not seek her further remand today, she was sent to jail.
Police officials have claimed that the 33-year-old YouTuber, booked under Section 152 of the BNS for endangering the sovereignty, unity, and integrity of India, was in contact with some PIOs (Pakistan Intelligence Operatives), and she shared 'sensitive information' with them.
She was among 12 people arrested from states including Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh over the past two weeks on suspicion of espionage.
While a detailed analysis of Malhotra's four bank accounts is underway, no official comments have been made regarding her financial transactions by the police officials.
In a press note released on May 21, the Hisar police had refuted the claims made in certain news reports that she had access to any military, defence, or strategic information or that she married any PIO or converted her religion.
