The Arbitration Chambers of Singapore has expanded its panel with the appointment of two new members, former judge of the Supreme Court of India, Justice M. Ravindra Bhat, and Allen & Gledhill partner and former CIAC CEO and registrar, Minn Naing Oo.
Justice Bhat becomes the first Indian member of the Arbitration Chambers. He was instrumental in founding the Delhi International Arbitration Centre in 2009. Over the course of his judicial career, he played a pivotal role in several landmark Constitution Benches that addressed crucial constitutional questions. He also served on the “High Level Committee to review the institutionalisation of Arbitration Mechanism in India,” significantly contributing to the strengthening of India's arbitration framework.
Beginning his career as an advocate at the Delhi Bar in 1982, he went on to serve as an additional judge of the Delhi High Court in 2004, becoming a permanent judge two years later. In 2018, he was elevated as Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court and, in 2019, as a judge of the Supreme Court of India, where he served until his retirement in 2023.
Welcoming Justice Bhat, Head of the Arbitration Chambers Gavin Denton said: “With the addition of Justice Bhat to Arbitration Chambers, we have not only gained one of the most respected former judges of India's Supreme Court, but also a man of tremendous intellect, modesty and integrity. As a set, we are truly honoured and delighted to have him join us.”
The Arbitration Chambers, with offices in Singapore, Hong Kong, London, and New York, is the only global chambers dedicated exclusively to the field of international arbitration.
