Justices NV Anjaria, Vija Bishnoi and Atul S Chandurkar took oath as the Judges of the Supreme Court today.

It was on May 29 that the President approved their appointments following a Supreme Court Collegium recommendation made on May 26.

On May 29, the Centre notified the elevation of the three High Court Judges to the Supreme Court.

Justice N V Anjaria was formerly the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court. His parent High Court is Gujarat. 

 Justice Vijay Bishnoi was formerly the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court. His parent High Court is Rajasthan

Justice Atul S Chandurkar was formerly a judge of the Bombay High Court.

CJI Gavai administered the oath to the new judges. Justice Bishnoi took the oath in Hindi.


 Justice Anjaria will have a term till March 23, 2030. Justice Bishnoi's term will be till March 25, 2029. Justice Chandurkar's term will be till April 7, 2030.

The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended their elevation on May 26.

With these appointments, the Supreme Court is back to its full strength of 34 judges. The Court will have one more vacancy soon with the retirement of Justice Bela M Trivedi on June 9.
