Intelligence Bureau (IB) Officer Sukanth Suresh, who is accused of abetting the suicide of his girlfriend/ colleague, has approached the Kerala High Court seeking a direction against the Police not to leak the sensitive materials related to the case under investigation.

According to Suresh, the sole custody of these materials was with the investigating agency and these have been released selectively to the media.

The petition was moved following incidents of publication by Malayalam News dailies of certain chat messages allegedly sourced from the materials in the hands of the Station House Officer, Pettah Police Station (2nd respondent). These materials, including alleged messages said to have been retrieved from the deleted social media account of the accused, were produced by the investigating agency during the course of the hearing of the bail application. Suresh has stated that these materials were published in the Malayalam dailies the very next day (24/05/2025) after the Court had reserved the case for orders.

Suresh has stated that the unauthorised leakage of sensitive materials by the investigation agency constitutes a 'gross abuse of investigative process and has been orchestrated with the intent to manufacture public outrage, prejudice judicial proceedings, and tarnish the reputation of the accused.' He has alleged violation of Section 31 of the Kerala Police Act, 2011, Section 228A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and S. 193 of BNSS.

The Court had denied bail to Suresh yesterday (May 26).

Suresh now seeks a direction to call for a report from the 2nd respondent and a direction to the superior officers of 2nd respondent to conduct an inquiry into the leakage of the aforesaid materials.
