National Law University Odisha Invites Submissions For 3rd NLUO-CLS Essay Writing Competition

National Law University Odisha (NLUO), Cuttack, in collaboration with its Constitutional Law Society (CLS), announces the commencement of the 3rd NLUO-CLS Essay Writing Competition. This annual event is designed to foster critical engagement and research among law students and young legal professionals on contemporary constitutional law issues.

NLUO was established with a vision to advance legal education, research, and professional skills for various legal professions, including advocacy and judicial services. The University strongly emphasizes academic excellence and has instituted multiple research centres and societies, enabling students to explore diverse legal fields while participating in intellectual and cultural pursuits.

The Constitutional Law Society, founded in 2018, is committed to promoting study and informed debate on constitutional matters. It facilitates a vibrant academic environment through public lectures, seminars, research projects, and collaborations with experts and institutions specializing in constitutional law.

The 3rd Essay Writing Competition invites submissions that contribute thoughtful analysis and fresh perspectives on constitutional law topics.

Competition Theme: Constitutional Rights: Citizenship Assurances and the Rights Beyond

Sub Themes:

a. Legal Citizenship v. Lived Belongingness

b. Digital Citizenship and Data Privacy

c. Birthright Privilege and Statelessness

d. Electoral Roll Revision: An exercise in exclusion?

e. OCI & POI Status and the National Sports Policy 2025

f. Non-refoulment v. Deportation

g. Basic Needs Approach: The Reach of Welfare Schemes

h. Sovereignty v. Due Process: Expulsion of Immigrants

i. Public Security and the Deprivation of Liberties

j. Ethnic Cleansing: Within and Beyond Borders

Eligibility:

 Undergraduate and postgraduate students pursuing a degree in law can participate.

Important Dates:

1. Call for Submissions: October 2, 2025

2. Last Date for Registration: October 31, 2025

3. Last Date for Submission: November 10, 2025

4. Declaration of Results: December 10, 2025

Registration Fees And Process:

The registration fee is as follows for all participants:

  • Single Authorship: ₹ 200
  • Co-Authorship: ₹ 300

Prizes:

The competition offers attractive prizes for the winners, runners-up, and second runners-up, including:

1. Winners: 5,000 Cash Prize

2. Runners Up : 3,000 Cash Prize

3. Second Runners Up : 1,500 Cash Prize

The top three winning entries will also be eligible for publication in the NLUO-CLS Blog.
