The lawyers of the Kerala High Court today demanded an apology from Justice A. Badharudeen's Court for allegedly insulting deceased lawyer Alex Scaria's wife in court yesterday.
Lawyers assembled in Justice Badharudeen's Court this morning seeking the Judge's apology in the open court for the insult caused to Advocate Saritha Thomas, wife of late Alex Scaria. However, Justice Badharudeen did not attend the Court today. A notice was later published informing that he won't be holding court during the forenoon session.
The lawyers allege that the Judge insulted Saritha Thomas and even asked "Who is Alex Scaria?", when she sought time to file the vakalath in her name. Alex Scaria passed away on January 07, 2025.
A group of lawyers led by Senior Advocate George Poothottam has moved a resolution before the Kerala High Court Advocates Association demanding Justice Badharudeen's apology.
Earlier also, KHCAA had complained about Justice Badharudeen's conduct against advocates in Court. The Association had also requested mandatory video recording of all proceedings before all Courts in the High Court.
Meanwhile, sources close to the Judge termed it as an issue that stemmed from a miscommunication. It was said that the Judge was unaware of the death of Adv.Alex and that it was his wife who appeared before the Court on that day. It was said that another woman lawyer who intervened at this point also did not inform the Court that it was the wife of the deceased lawyer that was appearing before the court. It was stated that had it been known that the bereaved wife was appearing before the Court, she would have been given a special consideration.
